Basalt boards can be cut in various shapes and made to order in a variety of metal casings.
Depending on the customer's requirements, the insulation values can be improved by either increasing the thickness of the board or pairing it with a second layer of insulation. The second layer of insulation could be made from lower temperature resistant Fiberglasss, which in return could reduce the overall cost of insulation.
In order to design a multilayer or sandwich construction effectful and technically sound, the engineer uses the thermal conductivity values (k-values) which help to predict the cold side, based on the hot side. The first layer of the Basalt board will break-down the heat to the level of an acceptable secondary layer (e.g. fiberglass).
In various cases, and for larger volume applications, it may make sense to consider even more than two layers.
